Getting from San Francisco Airport to San Francisco Cruise Terminal

There are multiple options to get from the San Francisco Airport to the San Francisco cruise ship terminal. They include cruise line bus transfer, private shuttle bus, private town car, taxi and car rental. Below are the costs of the various modes of transportation between San Francisco cruise ship terminal and the San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and, some helpful advice for your consideration about each option. Taking a Taxi Cab between San Francisco Cruise Ship Terminal and San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

Taking a taxi cab between the San Francisco International Airport (SAN) and San Francisco cruise ship terminal are readily available at the airports at designated taxi zones located outside Baggage Claim at all terminals. From SFO, fares are metered, plus a $2 surcharge. The fare to the cruise terminal will run from $45. 

Taking the San Mateo County Transit between San Francisco Cruise Ship Terminal and  International Airport (SFO)

By far, the cheapest way to reach the city from SFO is by getting on the SamTrans's (San Mateo County Transit District) No. 292 bus, running from about 5:30 a.m. until about midnight. It only costs about $1.75 and takes about an hour. There is no limit on luggage but remember you have to be able to carry it yourself. You'll find the buses at the north end of the lower levels. The route terminates at the Transbay Terminal at Mission and First Streets.

Taking the Bay Area Rapid Transit between San Francisco Cruise Ship Terminal and  International Airport (SFO)


At SFO, the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station is located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal. BART is also easily accessed from any terminal by riding the free Air Train. Trains leave the station every few minutes throughout the entire day. Travel time from the airport to the Embarcadero and other stops in the city is about 35 minutes.  This trip will run Approximately $8.10.

Taking a Shared Private Shuttle between San Francisco Cruise Ship Terminal and San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

Generally, shared private shuttles (i.e.: Super Shuttle, American Airporter Shuttle) between between the San Francisco Airport and San Francisco cruise ship terminal are only economical (versus the cruise-line provided transportation) if you have a larger group. The Super Shuttle is $14 per person and is the best option for a party of 5 or more. You can request the entire van, and they will take you directly to the port.

Taking a Rental Car between San Francisco Cruise Ship Terminal and San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

There are many rental car companies with locations at the airport and near San Francisco. You can get a rental car between the San Francisco Cruise Ship Terminal and San Francisco Airport for about $50. The rental car agencies have shuttles to take you to and from the ship.  Keep in mind that Parking is very difficult in the city.

Money Saving Advice when Buying a Cruise from San Francisco

  • Best advice we can give: the earlier you book, the better. Prices for early bookers tend to be lower, and, the best cabins out of San Francisco may sell out early.
